Aussie life

I have been inundated with requests, nay demands, to update my blog. So, to keep my fans happy, here is snapshot of my life here in oz...

I wake up every morning to the sounds of Men at Work playing their classic hit 'Land Down Under.' I sit on the verrandah drinking coconut milk straight from the shell, with kangaroos....

frolicking in the grass and koalas playing boomerang up in the trees. Then it's over to Ayers Rock for a quick ancient aboriginal ceremony before popping down to the beach for a surf. Then every night we have bbq's consisting solely of shrimp and kangaroo steak - accompanied of course by copious amounts of beer. Sometimes Kylie and Shane Warne pop over for a drink. Ahem.... well that might just be in my mind. The reality i'm afraid, is less interesting...

Work at the coffee shop goes on. I'm there 5 days a week, taking orders, clearing tables, preparing food and making coffee. The height of glamour, as I'm sue you'll agree! I've managed to graduate to the coffee machine, and am now able to produce a wide variety of hot and cold beverages. It's all going to be worth it though - my eyes are firmly on the prize of a month in New Zealand! I have booked my flights and arranged a hire car, as well as working out a route and arranging to stay with various people along the way.

I'm also excited about going down to Melbourne with Yvonne this weekend. There i'm going to meet up with my very good friend Dave B from Henderson in London, as well as some other friends I have met along my travels. Apparently Melbourne is the best city in Australia (by best I mean most cosmopolitan - it has been compared to London by many of the people who recommended it to me).

Must dash, I have to go and stand in the rain for a bus that may or may not decide to show up to take me to work. Plus, it's raining very heavily. This is the life!

P.S. The picture on the right shows one of my many baking efforts. Thought you might enjoy this (it actually tasted as good as it looks)!

Nice one Ele. I'm a wee bit - OK, hugely - jealous of your plans to visit NZ (my Papa lived in Wanganui and fought for NZ in WW2). Have a great time. I'm back in Scotland now with only memories (and a big f off Maasai blanket) to keep me warm... x
